FINANCE DIRECTOR - posted June 3, 2024

Towamencin Township (pop. 18,000), a Home Rule Municipality, following the Second Class Township Code in Montgomery County, PA, seeks a financially skilled and experienced individual to serve as its Finance Director. The Finance Director reports directly to the Township Manager and is generally responsible for the development and management of the township’s $23 million operating and capital budget (including a $10 General Fund budget, a $3 million capital budget, and an $8 million sewer system budget).  

The Finance Director will manage a two-person staff and administer all financial activities, including: payroll, record-keeping, payment of expenses, recording of revenues, financial reporting, the collection of real estate taxes and managing the annual budget process. The Finance Director is responsible for providing an accurate and timely monthly Financial Statement to the Board of Supervisors, Finance Committee and the Manager, including an analysis of budgetary trends.  

The position requires a person who is knowledgeable of fund accounting, has excellent computer aptitude and software skills, and the use of integrated municipal finance systems. The individual must have a valid Pennsylvania driver’s license. 

Qualified candidates must possess a bachelor's degree from a recognized college or university in finance, economics, public or business administration or a related field and training in governmental accounting, plus a minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible financial governmental management experience preferably in a supervisory capacity. A master's degree in public administration or a related field is desirable or equivalent combination of education, experience, certification and/or training which provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the essential functions of the position.

PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT - FULL TIME LABORER - posted May 14, 2024

  • Towamencin Township is seeking applications for a full time Public Works Laborer. This position performs work assigned and supervised by the Public Works Director and Parks Supervisor. The majority of the work consists of the maintenance of Township grounds and facilities. The position operates various hand and power tools, including zero-turn mowers, weed whackers, pole saws, chainsaws, brush cutters, tree chippers, and other equipment of similar complexity.  

The position also drives trucks and operates heavy construction equipment and requires a minimum of a class B PA license. Specific work examples include: loading and unloading of materials and tools from trucks, cutting grass, brush and branches, using hand and powered tools, application of snow and ice control materials and other maintenance chemicals, performing minor maintenance and repair operations on equipment and vehicles and the cleaning and painting of Township facilities. The position will operate vehicles to transport tools and equipment, apply road construction materials, plow snow and spread ice and snow control materials. The position is responsible for performing preventative maintenance operations on the vehicles operated and for reporting other needed maintenance. Equipment operation will include: trucks, mowers, rollers, backhoes, material loaders and other vehicles of similar complexity. The position will be responsible to perform other related work as may be required or assigned.

Primary Duties/Accountabilities: 

  •     Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions. 
  •     Ability to learn and carry out simple mechanical operations. 
  •     Knowledge of the proper operating procedures and safety practices associated with trucks, construction and maintenance equipment. 
  •     Ability to recognize defective operation of vehicles and to perform routine maintenance operations. 
  •    Knowledge of state laws pertaining to the operation of motor vehicles on highways.

Towamencin Township offers a great opportunity, with excellent benefits and a competitive starting salary range of $57,000.00 - $60,000.00, negotiable depending on experience.
