Memorial Program Information
Dedicating a memorial to someone special is a wonderful and lasting way to honor them. This program provides residents the opportunity to dedicate a tree or bench within the park system to memorialize an individual. Additionally, the dedication of trees and benches helps enhance and beautify Township parks, while assisting the Township’s vision for open space, parks, and recreation. Please review the memorial dedication process, guidelines, and expectations below:
- Spring memorial period (February - April) & Fall memorial period (August - October)
- The Township will review applications and approve or deny the request.
- Applicants will have input requesting a preferred site in township parks, where benches and trees are needed. However, placement approval is at the Township’s discretion.
- Payment in full must be received before a memorial is reserved or work takes place.
- Current pricing is listed on the application. Amounts are subject to change annually. Prices cover the cost to purchase, deliver, and install the memorial.
- Plaques are included with all memorials.
- All memorials become the property of the Township.
- Memorials are purchased from a Township-approved vendor.
- The Township will coordinate the timing and placement of the memorial installation as scheduling and site conditions allow.
- General maintenance and reasonable upkeep will be provided for the expected life of the memorial.
- Any trees that perish within the first year of planting will be replaced by the Township.
- The Township is not responsible for costs associated with damage or theft to memorials or plaques due to vandalism or other unforeseen circumstances (such as location or weather concerns). In such cases, the Township may relocate or remove a memorial. A reasonable effort will be made to notify the donor if changes are made to a memorial.
- Memorial personalization—such as flags, photos/posters, ornaments, or similar items—is not permitted. Any zip ties affixed to a tree will be removed, as they can damage the tree.
